Buy Local Handicrafts & Handlooms en route to Chardham, Uttarakhand
With a motive to attract tourists towards locally cultivated food items and locally made handicrafts & handlooms during chardham yatra, the authorities will install kiosks and stalls in different places of the routes. The chief secretary, N Ravishankar, said that these handicrafts & handlooms are very attractive, and we will market them through showrooms at tourists’ accommodations and routes. He said we can leverage the chardham yatra to promote the local talent, which in turn increase sales and boost employment in the state.
As per the scheme of central government, two handloom expos will be organized – three weeks after the commencement of the chardham yatra and two weeks before the conclusion of the pilgrimage. It is said that sweets made of locally produced grains would also be made available at tourists’ lodges.
Some of the other initiatives the Chief Secretary talked about are:
Installing food courts serving Garhwali and Kumaoni dishes.
A large exhibition to display the production of local craftsmen and self-employed groups.
The materialization of ‘Gramin Hut’ as per the RIDF scheme of NABARD in Bhimtalla, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Haridwar, Kashipur and Haldwani.
The principal secretary of cottage industry, Mr. M.H. Khan, said that the souvenirs and handicrafts have been developed with the help of National Institute of Design and other experts. The young craftsmen are being given special training so that they can improve the design and add new dimensions to the existing ones.
